What type of qualification is right for me? | Highfield International

What type of qualification is right for me?

Qualifications can be confusing. Choosing the right type of qualification can be almost impossible. Particularly when looking at the wide range of qualification types that are offered internationally. Many organisations offer solutions that they deem ‘qualifications’, so making an informed choice can be so much harder than it should be.

From training providers offering training solutions packaged as qualifications, with no third-party accreditation or lacking the appropriate quality assurance, through to regulated qualifications and everything in between – how do you know what you’re choosing is right for you?

If you’re a learner, selecting the correct qualification may be the difference between receiving a job offer or promotion and being unsuccessful.

For employers, selecting the correct type of qualification may have even more of an impact – what would happen if first aid was delivered to a customer by a staff member without appropriate training? At best you’re likely to receive complaints, at worst potential legal action.

At Highfield we aim to tackle that confusion. We offer simple to understand solutions that are easy to explain. We’re an award-winning business that puts our customers at the heart of everything we do. That includes the development of our range of qualifications.

Highfield Qualification and Programme Classifications

Classification – Qualification (Award, Certificate or Diploma)

Highfield International offers an extensive range of international and regulated qualifications.

These qualifications will fall under one of three categories. These are:

  • regulated (RQF)– meaning they are Ofqual regulated. These qualifications reflect UK legislation and business practices
  • international – non-regulated, written to Highfield’s high standards to follow best business practices in the sector and country it is being delivered in
  • locally regulated by government departments

Whichever category of qualification you choose you can be sure that the qualification has been written, developed and quality assured to the highest of standards.

Our international qualifications are developed to the same exacting standards as our Ofqual-regulated qualifications, in many cases the only difference is the removal of UK-specific legislation. This allows the training provider to teach to local laws and regulations which may be very different to UK legislation and case law.

The course outline, learning outcomes, assessment criteria, content and assessment tools have all been approved for delivery by Highfield. The assessments for these qualifications are marked or moderated by either Highfield assessors or verifiers as appropriate.

Learners successfully completing this classification of course will be issued with an official Highfield-branded certificate/qualification.

In summary:

  • written by Highfield
  • approved by the Highfield academic and quality teams
  • assessments marked and moderated by Highfield
  • UK regulated, locally regulated and international qualifications available
  • qualification written in line with best practice guidelines
  • learners issued with Highfield-branded certificate/qualification

NEW: Classification – Certified Programmes

Highfield International now offers a range of manager certification programmes to provide evidence that supervisors and managers have obtained a number of relevant food safety qualifications. The programme has a built-in requirement to maintain up-to-date knowledge and a commitment to undertake a minimum of 24 hours CPD annually.

Highfield programmes are designed and developed by Highfield to encourage a deeper understanding of a subject area that is based on a practical application of knowledge.

Highfield certified programmes combine a minimum of two qualifications with an ongoing requirement to maintain CPD and evidence application of learned behaviours and skills.

Highfield programmes are quality assured by Highfield to ensure that all assessment criteria are tested and the assessment is at the appropriate level.

Existing programmes include Highfield’s Manager in Charge (HMIC) which is designed specifically to deliver a practical approach to food safety that is based on good international practice and built on 7 years of successfully implementing similar programmes in the Middle East. The programme provides the tools to take responsibility for food safety without the need to rely on inspections by third parties.

In summary:

  • written by Highfield
  • approved by the Highfield academic and quality teams
  • assessments marked and moderated by Highfield
  • UK regulated, locally regulated and international qualifications available

Classification - Accredited Programmes

Accredited programmes that are offered by our centres have been quality assured by the Highfield team. This assurance and approval demonstrates that your programme meets the high level requirements of Highfield. The course outline, learning outcomes, assessment criteria and assessment tools have all been approved for delivery.

Learners successfully completing this classification of programme will be issued with a Highfield-branded, accredited certificate. An accredited programme is not linked to any existing Highfield qualifications.

In summary:

  • written by you
  • completely flexible to meet the specific needs of your customers
  • you own the intellectual property rights
  • a requirement for learner achievement
  • a requirement for learners to be assessed
  • learners issued with a Highfield-branded certificate

Classification - Endorsed Programmes

This classification is ideal for both education institutions and corporate in-house training programmes due to its level of flexibility, allowing centres to create a course that covers customised learning outcomes. These programmes are written by the delivering centre and endorsed by Highfield. Endorsement is issued when a course is proven to be effectively quality assured in both its delivery and design.

In addition to endorsed programmes providing great flexibility to meet specific learning outcomes, they also provide the reassurance of intellectual property rights protection, as programmes are only available to the developing centre. An endorsed programme does not require learners to achieve a specific level of proficiency or undergo any types of assessment.

Should you choose to deliver a Highfield-endorsed programme, you will be able to issue each of your learners with an official Highfield-endorsed certificate, proving their attendance.

Please note: an endorsed programme is not linked to any Highfield qualifications.

In summary:

  • written by you
  • completely flexible to meet the specific needs of your customers
  • you own the intellectual property rights
  • no requirement for learner achievement
  • no requirement for learners to be assessed
  • learners issued with a Highfield-branded certification

Verify a Highfield Certificate

At Highfield we offer Checkcert, our certificate verification portal. The Checkcert function can be used for all classifications of certificate from qualifications to certified, accredited and endorsed programmes.

Checkcert is a free-to-use tool that allows learners and employers to check the authenticity of a Highfield qualification. The tool is designed to combat qualification fraud and provide protection for both learners and employers.
